Mykines Boat Tour
Explore the enchanting puffin island of Mykines during the Faroe Islands’ summer months with our open shuttle boat service.
Meeting Point
Your adventure with BlueGate begins at the Sørvágur harbour on Vágar Island, where you’ll embark on a captivating 30-minute sail ride. As you approach Mykines, watch as puffins soar above and perch on the pristine waters of the North Atlantic – a preview of the incredible encounters to come during your trip.
Please note: The pathway to the Mykineshólmur lighthouse might be closed due to a recent landslide. However, you’ll still enjoy plenty of close-up puffin sightings on the island, especially during puffin season, when many puffins nest along the cliffs and grassy slopes.
Arrival
Upon arriving at Mykines, you’ll have three hours to explore the island’s breathtaking landscapes. Disembarking will require some agility, so be prepared for a small physical challenge as you transition from the boat to the quayside.
For those looking to delve deeper into the island’s beauty, consider joining a guided tour or setting off on your own hiking tour along the island’s well-trodden paths. The journey provides an up-close look at Mykines’ dramatic cliffs, lush green hills, and extraordinary birdlife.
Do keep in mind that weather conditions can change quickly, so dressing appropriately and checking the forecast before departure is advised.
A hiking fee is required for visitors exploring the island, which helps with the maintenance of trails and conservation efforts. Whether you opt for a guided experience or a self-led trek, the rewards of the journey are unparalleled.
Make time to relax with a cup of coffee at the local café, where you can savor refreshments and a light meal before your return to Vágar.
Departure
Our shuttle departs at 09:30 AM from Sørvágur Ferry Marina, the designated meeting point for all travelers. Aboard our 12-seater boat, you’ll find comfortable seating as you cruise between the islands.
Our experienced captain ensures a safe and enjoyable ride to visit Mykines, often cited as the top summer destination in the Faroe Islands for its sheer natural beauty and unique wildlife.
Please note that transport to Mykines is only available during the summer season, as rough seas and unpredictable winter weather conditions make travel to the island difficult in colder months.

Thank you team Bluegate. My grandson Richard and I had a great experience. Compliments to our guide that accompanied us on the island; he was friendly and answered all my inquiries. He's very knowledgeable about the island and area. We enjoyed the tour on the return trip. The captain knows his stuff; piloting through the sea arch and showing the other side of the island. Bonus!! I had so much fun on this boat ride. The employees were so nice! They took us to see a few beautiful locations including a waterfall that's only seen well from the water. We also got to see a single straggler Puffin, and some dolphins doing jumps. It was an amazing time. The boat goes fast which is extra fun. You are provided with a suit for protection.Posted on Google![]()
